What happens at the survey?
The survey for salon and barber shop fit-out in Kelso covers measurements, service capacity, access for deliveries and any planning or building control points.
In and around Kelso we are usually asked to work on cafés, takeaways and independent restaurants and convenience stores and off-licences.
What is included?
- Styling stations with mirrors and power
- Backwash units with hot water and drainage
- Reception desk and retail display
- Treatment rooms and partitions
- Towel and colour dispensary
What should Kelso owners check first?
- Treatment rooms offering special procedures may need a local authority licence.
- Hair traps on backwash drainage save costly blockages.
- Backwash units need hot water capacity sized for several basins running together.
In Scotland, most fit-out work that alters the building needs a building warrant from the local authority before work starts, followed by a completion certificate. Planning permission and advertisement consent are separate, and Scottish councils publish their own shopfront design guidance.
