What happens at the survey?
Before we price salon and barber shop fit-out in St Andrews, we check the lease, the landlord's fit-out rules, the existing services and how materials can get into the unit.
In and around St Andrews we are usually asked to work on high street units and corner shops and pharmacies and healthcare premises.
What is included?
- Reception desk and retail display
- Treatment rooms and partitions
- Towel and colour dispensary
- Lighting that flatters skin tones
- Styling stations with mirrors and power
What should St Andrews owners check first?
- Treatment rooms offering special procedures may need a local authority licence.
- Hair traps on backwash drainage save costly blockages.
- Backwash units need hot water capacity sized for several basins running together.
In Scotland, most fit-out work that alters the building needs a building warrant from the local authority before work starts, followed by a completion certificate. Planning permission and advertisement consent are separate, and Scottish councils publish their own shopfront design guidance.
Questions about salon and barber shop fit-out in St Andrews
How soon can work start in St Andrews?
Surveys are usually booked within one to two weeks. Your quote includes a start date and a dated programme.

Often yes. Several backwash basins running at once need more hot water than a standard shop heater gives.
How many chairs can I fit in my salon?
As a rough guide each styling station needs around 1.2 metres of wall and space behind for the stylist to work. We draw it out at survey.
Is the survey free in St Andrews?
Yes. We survey units in St Andrews and across Fife free of charge, with no obligation.
