Local projects in Glasgow
In Glasgow we mostly see boutiques and independent retailers and shopping centre units and retail park stores. Each has its own landlord rules, service loads and access limits, which we look at on the first visit.
West Central Scotland has the country's largest retail concentration, with city-centre units, shopping centres and suburban parades all needing building warrant approval for structural fit-out changes.
What does the work include?

What approvals might you need in Glasgow?
In Scotland, most fit-out work that alters the building needs a building warrant from the local authority before work starts, followed by a completion certificate. Planning permission and advertisement consent are separate, and Scottish councils publish their own shopfront design guidance.
- Working displays such as taps or appliances need water and waste runs planned at the start.
- Design the display walls to be demountable so ranges can change without rebuilding.
