Shop roller shutters are steel or aluminium curtains that roll into a box above the shopfront, closed at night to protect the glass and stock. Perforated and grille types let light and window display show through.
How do we plan the job?
Before we price roller shutters and security in Dalkeith, we check the lease, the landlord's fit-out rules, the existing services and how materials can get into the unit.
In and around Dalkeith we are usually asked to work on showrooms and trade counters and shopping centre units and retail park stores.
What is included?

- Open-mesh grilles for window display
What should Dalkeith owners check first?
- Your insurer may specify the security rating it wants.
- Electric shutters need safety edges or photocells to stop them closing on people.
- Externally fitted shutters often need planning permission, and some councils prefer internal grilles.
In Scotland, most fit-out work that alters the building needs a building warrant from the local authority before work starts, followed by a completion certificate. Planning permission and advertisement consent are separate, and Scottish councils publish their own shopfront design guidance.
