What happens at the survey?
Before we price bespoke shop joinery and counters in St Andrews, we check the lease, the landlord's fit-out rules, the existing services and how materials can get into the unit.
In and around St Andrews we are usually asked to work on shopping centre units and retail park stores and cafés, takeaways and independent restaurants.
What is included?
- Laminate, veneer and painted finishes
- Delivery and installation
- Workshop drawings for approval
- Counters and cash desks
- Display cabinets, lockable and lit
What should St Andrews owners check first?
- Hard-wearing edges matter more than the face finish on busy counters.
- Allow time for drawing approval before manufacture starts.
- Counters should include a lowered section for wheelchair users.
In Scotland, most fit-out work that alters the building needs a building warrant from the local authority before work starts, followed by a completion certificate. Planning permission and advertisement consent are separate, and Scottish councils publish their own shopfront design guidance.
